NOPAIN Act
The NOPAIN Act, explained.
The NOPAIN Act opened the door for surgical facilities to offer — and be separately reimbursed for — clinically proven non-opioid recovery. Game Ready cold compression is one of the therapies that qualifies. Here’s what the law actually does, and what it means for your facility.
What is the NOPAIN Act?
NOPAIN stands for Non-Opioids Prevent Addiction In the Nation. It’s a Medicare provision built to widen access to non-opioid pain management for surgical patients during the opioid epidemic. It directs CMS to pay separately for qualifying non-opioid treatments in two settings — ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) and hospital outpatient departments (HOPDs) — instead of bundling those costs into the surgical procedure. The provision runs through December 31, 2027.
In plain terms: for the first time, a facility can offer Medicare patients a non-opioid recovery therapy that delivers clinically and is recognized financially.
Where Game Ready fits.
Game Ready is the active cold-and-compression recovery system already trusted by orthopedic specialists, athletic trainers, and surgical teams. As of January 1, 2026, it’s recognized under the NOPAIN Act — which means your facility can offer it to Medicare patients in the surgical setting as a qualifying, non-opioid recovery therapy. It’s one of the recovery programs WRS Group offers.
What this means for your facility.
- Offer Medicare patients a proven non-opioid recovery option in the surgical setting.
- A therapy that’s recognized for separate Medicare payment — not bundled into the procedure.
- A clinically backed way to support opioid-sparing care — the direction payors and policymakers are pushing toward.
A program your facility can offer — without building anything.
WRS Group is the largest cold compression therapy provider in the country, and Game Ready is one of the recovery programs we offer. Under the NOPAIN Act, your facility doesn’t have to build a cold compression operation — you can simply offer Medicare patients a non-opioid recovery option as a managed program that runs inside the workflow you already have.
We handle the device, the logistics, and the support; your team offers the therapy.
